The cave is located in the Petroto area in the Prefecture of Serres. It stretches over an area of 25,000 km2 and its total length is three km. The cave extends horizontally and without any particular direction. The main branch, which is basically the tourist route, has a total length of about 1,000 m. Throughout the tourist route, the cave has impressive formations. The cave was discovered in 1958. Its development started in the mid-1980s, and in 1997 its operation passed from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture to local bodies of Alistrati.
