Church of the Assumption of the Virgin

Located in Chepelare
Chepelars multiplied, swarms were born and the church "St. Athanasius the Great, "she began to get narrow. On the other hand, because the church was located at the lower end of the village, getting to it not in the snow and bad weather from the remote neighborhoods was a whole adventure. At the same time, the children who went to read and read letters in the school to the church went along. That is why the Beluks-led upper mahalas have contemplated building a new church, this time in their Belovks Mahal. This idea was born in the head of Mityo Kiryakov, a famous church leader.
On June 8, 1860, the axes of the church began to be dug. There they came across an old temple with thick long walls, but left everything in place. The construction was delayed because the church was big and the money was low. Then one of the initiators, Hadji Radko, went to the gates of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, where he received permission to collect aid. On the first lap, Thrace hit, but the money was soon over. He had to leave for overseas begging and reached Masseur - Egypt, succeeding in earning the alms of the Patriarch of Alexandria.
And so finally the church was built. The consecration of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin was celebrated on July 16, 1867 and became a great holiday of the village. (Source: K. Glushkov “The Cross Mountain” p. 44 Asenovgrad 2017)
